| Question: | Hi I am wondering if
you would be able to help me even tho you answers questions on mitsubishi's
but I have a 240sx nissan and the two people that I could have asked
questions to on that are on vacations and I needs this info quick.
I had it at the garage and they said that there isn't either air box
or something like that on it and i was wondering would that be the
prob for the car shutting off mostly when the clutch is in to the floor
or i am stopped and idelling. it never shuts off when the gas is on...........i
would appreciate if you could help me or if you knows someone who could.
cause they said that they cant fix it there and i was wondering if
that would cause this prob. they said there isnt either air box there. thank you |
| Answer: | Amy, If you bought the car used, there is a good chance the previous owner removed the air box to gain more power. Many garages will not fix a car that has been modified because they do not want to be liable for "missing parts". That is, you could go back and sue them and say they stole your air box. Removal of the air box could cause the car to stall because there is a lot more air than normal entering the engine. If there is too much air entering, and not enough fuel, then the engine can stall and shut off. Also, your engine would have to work harder and that could strain your alternator and battery. If you have an AutoZone in your area, you can take it to them and they will check your alternator and battery for free. Also, have your fuel filter replaced. If your fuel filter is clogged,
your engine will not get enough gas to keep the engine running while
idling. |
