THE CAR IS A 82' NISSAN 280ZX.
Answer:

Barry,

Never have worked on an older Nissan, I couldn't even tell you where in relation the oil pan is with the timing chain. I usually just answer Mitsubishi questions. But...

If that screw is trapped in the sump, it probably won't do any harm; unless it gets sucked into you oil pump. Even a little 10mm screw can block an oil line. Then, that screw will screw up your car.

Magnets would be the way to go about retrieving it without taking off the pan. I have heard of an item that is a long, flexable stick with a very powerful magnet on the end of it. I wish I could tell you the actual name or manufacture of it, but I can't. This may help you fish out that screw; even if its stuck in the sump.

Assuming that the screw does stay in the only thing it will affect will be your peace of mind. You will know its in there, and it may drive you crazy until you get it out.

Sorry I couldn't be more of a help, but the best of luck
