Subject: Truck will not start
Question:

My 90 Mitsubishi Mighty Max 2.4L will not start. I am not getting any spark. I had the coil checked at the auto store and they said it was alright. I check the fuseable links and connections and they were okay.
Could it be in the power transistor and can they test it and how much will it cost. Also I wonder could the optic sensor be bad and can you replace it also and what would it cost. Someone told me that you had to buy the whole distributor.
Thank you

Answer: Chuck,
If your coil is working, your power transistor most likely is working as well. If you've never replaced your whole distributor, it's probably a good idea to do so. A 14 year old distributor probably doesn't have much life left on it anyway.

Another problem could be your car's computer. Read this article for further information:

If your ECU is malfunctioning, you will experience starting problems.
Pull your ECU out and inspect it for damage.
Good luck!
