| Subject: | Mitsubishi Coil Failure |
| Question: | '92 Mitsubishi Montero LS 4Wheel Drive Automatic Transmission. The coil on this vehicle failed to produce fire to the distributor. I replaced the coil and the vehicle ran fine for a while. I then replaced it with the old coil and it ran fine for a while. It now has failed alltogether. Is the problem in a relay or sensor or is there a problem within the distributor that is causing the coil to fail? |
| Answer: | William, Your problem may be with your ignition or alternator fuse. Both of those should be labeled in your fuse box near your battery. In the ignition system, the distributor is controlled by the coil, so I don't think your ditributor is the problem. It's possible, but I doubt it. You may have a failing alternator or (as you mentioned) a malfunctioning relay. But check your spark plugs, plug wires, and even your harness that connects
to your coil. It is possible that there is just a poor connection or short
some where in the system. |
