Subject: Diesel Engine problem
Question: Dear Sir,
I have a 1992 Mitsubishi Pajero that was originally fitted with a petrol engine. However my boss replaced it with a diesel engine.
The problem I experience is that when the jeep is on for sometime (such that the temperature guage reaches half way), then it is switched off and when switched on, the engine won't start. I can hear the the chikkkkkk chikkkkk sound which is what I hear when a car starts. If the jeep is pushed, the engine starts.
However, this problem is not there when the jeep is started from cold.
I have changed the fuel filter.
Can you please help.
Thank you,
Ansari
Answer: Ansari,
I'm not too familiar with diesel engines in Mitsubishis. But from what you described, you may have a problem with your starter. As your engine gets warmer, the conductivity in your battery cables reduces to an extent. If there is not enough current being supplied to your starter, or being produced by your starter, your truck may not start. Check all your cables and make sure your battery is fully charged. Have your starter motor checked as well.
Good luck!
