| Subject: | Trailer Hitch |
| Question: | Tony, I purchased a
2003 mitisubishi Montero Sport. I ordered a trailer hitch from
Truckaddons, which they advertized as fitting my vehicle. The
hitch supplied was a Putham model 25170. The vertical bolt hole
didn't line up and a quick measurement of center to center on
the frame indicated about a 1" differance. Putham tech service
said that they have not checked an 2003 model Montero Sport for
fit. Has the frame change on this model year? |
| Answer: | Gary, From what I know, the Montero Sport has not changed frames since a year ago. Even though there are 4 different styles of the Montero Sport, I believe they all share the same frame; which is also the same for the 2002 models. Now its big brother, the Montero, did change slightly in 2003. It now sports a beefer 3.8 liter engine, and many trailor hitch manufacturers are gearing their efforts for that model; and not so much the Montero Sport. The 3.8L engine (and transmission) is much better suited for towing and that's where the confusion may be at the Putham tech support. Being that there are 4 styles for the Montero Sport (actually 8 if you include the difference between the 2WD and 4WD), and 2 different styles for the bigger Montero, even tech support folks can get confused. Double check with Truckaddons to make sure they have the exact
hitch for your exact style of Montero Sport. |
