| Question: |
I'm changing the brake pads, calipers, and rotors on my montero and I've never changed rotor before. will I need any special tools. |
| Answer: | Kevin, You shouldn't need any special tools, but you since you're planning on replacing your calipers, you'll need to bleed all the air out of your brakes. You can buy a cheap brake bleeder that'll allow you to bleed brakes by yourself, but getting the assistances of a friend to pump the brakes could help. There is a brake caliper retractor tool that may help and you can pick one of those up for a few bucks at your local auto parts store. You'll at least want a good set of 1/2" sockets and a 1/2" ratchet, a few metric open ended wrenches (to remove the brake line from the calipers), and the various cleaners and lube. If your rotors are rusted to the hub, you may need a propane torch and a sledge hammer to remove them. Obviously be very careful if you need to use those tools. I would highly recommend looking for a service manual for your Montero.
Both Haynes and Chiltons make manuals for your car and can be found at
most major auto stores. They will walk you through the entire procedure. |
