| Question: | i have all drive belts off and now the manual says to take off the crankshaft pulleys and timing belt before i get to the water pump...do you think this can be done by a lay person who does a lot of self maint. or needs to go to garage??? |
| Answer: | Ray, Replacing a water pump on just about any Mitsubishi takes a while, but it can be done. If you're comfortable working on cars and used to getting your hands dirty, I think you can handle this job. When you complete the job, drive the car easy for a day or two; making
sure there's no leaks or rattles coming from the pump. If you've never
replaced your drive belts and timing belt before, now is definately the
time to do it. Everytime I've ever had a water pump changed, I change
all the belts as well. Its just good practice. I would also recommend
getting some anti-seize compound and put it on all the bolts you remove.
If you ever have to get back to any of those areas in the future, it will
be 10 times easier. |
