Weston, If your engine is turning over (sounds like it wants to start), it could either have an electrical problem or a fuel problem. Getting the truck to start the first time messing with the wires may just have been luck. The sound you heard that you described as a reset (probably a click) may have been the computer resetting or your main relay engaging. The Mighy Max has a distributor and ignition coil. Check this, the spark plugs, and the spark plug wires. You may need to replace one or all of those if you've never done it before. If you have a good spark to the plugs, your main relay could be the problem. To check this, make sure there is sufficient fuel pressure to the engine. The main relay will operate normally with correct pressure. If pressure is lacking, have it inspected. The main relay controls electrical power to the fuel pump. If that relay goes out, the fuel pump won't energize to pump gas to the engine. Along those same lines, have the fuel pump checked out as well. You may have a clogged fuel filter as well. Those filters should be checked every 10,000 miles and replaced every couple years. You may even have the problem of getting too much fuel to the engine. Your engine could be flooding. A flooded engine can take several minutes or even hours to sit before it can be started. Also, severily dirty air filters can prevent an engine from starting as well. If you haven't changed the air filter in the past 18 months/18,000 miles, replace it. If you have any doubts in your electrical skills, have a qualified technician inspect your electrical connections. A short circuit in a bad wire could end up causing an engine fire in the worst case scenerio. Hope I was able to help. Good Luck! |
