| Answer: | Dawn, I don't know your car's make, model, or year so it's a difficult to give you an answer. If it's a Mitsubishi Eclipse, for example, some of them have two O2 Sensors. There's an O2 sensor in the front of the car (exhaust manifold) and another one in the Catalytic Converter. Your O2 sensors will burn out (sometimes called "fouled") when your fuel/air mixture is severally off. This can be caused by many things. You may have a clogged air filter, vacuum leak in an intake hose, a cracked intake or exhaust manifold, or your catalytic converter may just have gone bad. It's rare for catalytic converters to go bad unless it gets burned out due to poor O2 sensors or a big rock hits it really hard. I would advise having your new O2 sensor in the front checked
again, have the other one replaced, and have the Catalytic
converter checked out and replaced if necessary. You may
be experiencing a significant change in gas mileage since
these problems have been happening. If that's the case, your
problem is most likely another fouled O2 sensor. |
