Subject: '99 Mitsubishi power steering line
Question: is the power steering cooling/coolant line pressurized? we can not find a replacement part locally (on a Sunday esp) and no one seems to know if it is pressurized and not agreeable to
to makeshift repairs.

Answer: Scor,
I know that the Eclipse (turbo model at least) do have the power steering coolent lines. And Yes, it is pressurized. When you turn the wheel, the power steering pump forces the oil through the lines to assist hydralicly with your steering. I have had two lines go bad on my Eclipse. It rusts out very quickly and was not a good design by Mitsubishi.

If you're referring to the line I'm think of, I am currently using a makeshift fix. I completely removed the cooling line (which loops in front of the radiator, visible in front of the car). Then I took one of the rubber tubes off, and just connected the other rubber tube to the inlet I removed the other rubber tube from. Its not easy to explain, but its working. I don't know what harm it will do now because its not being cooled. But I will be keeping an eye on it. Hope this was helpful.
Good luck!
