| Subject: | My son was almost killed in RI |
| Question: | Hi everyone, On Monday, January 6th, my 19-year-old son, Scott, was almost killed in a hit and run automobile accident on Interstate 95 South near the Thurbers Avenue curve around noon. He was on his way to my house. He saw a fairly new black Mitsubishi SUV pulling up close to the rear of his car. He was driving a 1993 red Honda Civic in the lane next to the high-speed lane. The Mitsubishi came up on him, slammed into the rear of his car and sent him spinning towards the Jersey barrier. He cut the wheel to the right in an attempt to gain control, then his car spun around 2 to 3 times in the other direction across 4 lanes, slamming head on into the guard rail, and finally came to a stop facing the wrong way in the emergency lane. The SUV did not stop. (SUV may have been a black Mitsubishi, Montero/Montero Sports, 1998+) A gentleman who witnessed the entire accident thought he would be dead. He decided it was more important to help my son than to chase the SUV. He didn't get the license plate. But only for the grace of God, my son survived. The State Police and paramedics told me he would have died if he didn't have his seat belt on. The State Police also told me there was nothing they could do without a license plate. This is a horrendous crime and I am very mad. The SUV driver never stopped to help my boy. It is beyond my understanding on how someone could cause such a horrendous accident and keep going. Maybe this person was drunk, on drugs, illegal, wanted by the police or just a horrible person. What ever the case may be, I want this person caught. I'm sure other people saw this accident, and for whatever reason, could not stop. I will pay whoever comes forward with the right license plate or any information leading to this person a reward of $500 cash. There has to be damage to the front of the black Mitsubishi SUV. My telephone # is (401) 383-7773. I am asking for help. Please, talk to your family and friends. The odds may be against me right now, however, I am his Mom, and I have to do all I can to help him. There is no other way that I can think of to catch this person. Will you please forward this to anyone you feel may be able to help. If you have any suggestions, please email them to me. Let's get this person. My son lives in East Providence, and I live in Cranston. Thank you so much for your help. Respectfully yours, Lorraine DeCristoforo |
| Answer: | Lorraine, My prayers go out to your son. That truly is an awful crime. I can understand that?d want to go to any source possible to help with this situation. I will pass your story along to others in the chance it will take that driver off the road and behind bars. I get about a half dozen different questions per day from Mitusbishi owners all over the world. I will pay extra close attention to any future questions coming in dealing with Montero repair. Perhaps the criminal will write in about a repair question. If that person tries to take their car to a dealership in the area for repairs, they most likely would be caught. I?m sure the State police have notified all dealerships in the tri-state area to be on the look out for a black Montero with front-end damage. I wish you and your son the best. |
