The noise could be coming from your alternator, a leak in your exhaust, or perhaps a problem with your anti-lock braking system control unit (if so equipped). Noises can usually be found very easily if the noise happens while the car can simply idle. If you can hear the nosie when the car is not in motion, but running, you (or a mechanic) can get under the car and listen for the noise. You should be able to poinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from.
