Subject: headgasket and compression

" i seen on the back of the engine there was some oil coming out at the headgasket around where the number 1 cylinder is and i also done a dry and wet compression teat and i got #1 175 #2 180 #3 180 #4 190 and on the wet test i got #1 185 #2 195 #3 190 #4 200 i dont know if this is good but it seems the nuber 1 is lower then the others i dont know its the headgasket cause of the oil was coming out that side and there also is another prob sometimes it when it warms up white smoke will come out the tailpipe but i think i got the blue smoke gone i put heavier oil i put 10w30 and slick 50 oil treatment and it stoped i think but when i put that new oil in it it made vavletrain noise so i dont know i hope all its going to be is a head gasket and maybe 5w30 going back in to the car plz help me let me know some input thank you very much

You did not mention any specifics about your engine model or the vehicle it's in, so I can't really say too much about those compression numbers. But the rule of thumb in most Mitsubishi engines is that compression is within factory specs if it's within +-15 psi of the other cylinders. So, if your #1 is at 175 psi (185) and the #4 is at 190 psi (200), then you're within spec.

I would guess replacing your head gasket would help reduce any white or blue smoke. But since you would need to remove your head, I would also recommend you replace your valve guides and valve seals. Worn guides and seals will also cause oil seepage into your combustion chamber and burn off. So getting your head rebuilt with new guides and seals should stop any oil leakage along with replacing the head gasket.
