Subject: oil and additives
Question:

hows it going well i wanted to know what kinda oil and additives are good for an engine with 100000 miles on it and are there any additives for a auto trans and for the coolant thank you

Answer: Holley,
If you use a high quality oil and good oil filter, using additives really do not do much. Products like Slick 50, ProLong, etc., do very little to help your engine run better. Your owners manual will tell you the exact weight of engine oil you need (5w-30, 10w-30, etc.). If your engine is burning oil, there is engine oil that may help rejuvenate oil seals to a point. There is no miracle cure for burning oil, except for physically replacing worn oil seals, but using an engine oil for higher mileage cars can help. Those oils are usually well marked for use in higher mileage cars. If you're leaking oil, no oil or oil additive will help that.

Like for engine oil, there really are no auto tranny oil additives that will make much of a difference. Just be sure to replace your tranny oil per your owner manuals recommend intervals and with the type of oil recommened. Same goes for your engine coolant. Unless you're driving a race car, there are no additives on the market that will really make any kind of improvement.

The large selection of additives for your car's fluids you see in stores really do not do much help or make your car run better. Regular maintenance and keeping an eye on fluid levels is the best practice you can do to keep your engine running for a long time.
Good luck!
