| Subject: | Fuel Injection |
| Question: | We have been working
on my son's Mitsbishi because it kept stalling instead of idling and was
really consuming gas. We change the points, plugs, rotor, Air and fuil filters
I've got good spark and Fuel is getting past the filters to the injectors
but the car will not start. It sounds like it is not getting fuel Thanks, Roccy Kane |
| Answer: | Roccy, There are several things that can cause rough idling and/or stalling. Here's a list: -Purge control valve hose -Vacuum hoses -Intake manifold -Intake manifold plenum -Thottle body -EGR valve (California cars) -Ignition system problems -Idle speed set too low -Idle mixture too lean or too much -Fuel injection system problems -Compression too low -Air filter clogged -Fuel filter or line clogged -Poor fuel pressure -Weak fuel pump -Clogged fuel rail/injectorsYou may even have a bad alternator. If you don't drive the car for a while (couple of days), and notice the car is very difficult to start, its a good sign your alternator could be the problem. I get this general question a lot. Its very difficult to diagnose completely without actually looking at the car, or getting more information. Though that's a pretty big list, all those things are relatively easy to check or even fix. If you don't feel you have the capabilities to check these items yourself, take your car to qualified mechanic and have him/her check the items on the list. I hope I was able to help. Good luck! |
