| Question: | Followup To no spark to distributor cap Question - Does this mean that I would have to put in a new motor or can I simply change the brain box; but do that sound to much like stupid to you or will that perhaps make things worse that what it's already or if I buy the right brain box would that make the difffernce( I'm just speaking in a little anger right now because this puzzling me) |
| Answer: | There were basically two different
engines for '95; a 1.5L (S model) and a 1.8L (LS & ES models). 1996
models had only the LS and S models. If you put a '95 S into a '96 S (same
goes for LS), you can probably get away with just replacing your '96 ECU
with a '95. The biggest problem with merely swapping is that all accessories should be matched up; transmission, power windows/locks/mirror, cruise control, A/C, keyless entry, intermittent wipers, dual/single airbags, Cassette/CD player, etc... If you can find an ECU in a junk yard, you can probably get it for about $25. If a couple of the accessories don't match up, you probably won't have any major problems, but your check engine light may always be on. At least make sure your transmission and airbags match up between ECUs. |
