| Subject: | mitsubishi mirage waterpump |
| Question: | My 95 Mirage is leaking coolant around the fan belt area and almost sure it's the waterpump. I have changed out a waterpump or two in my lifetime but not lately. Well, not lately is about twenty years ago. How difficult is it on my Mirage? Do I need any special tools or is it better to take it to my mechanic? |
| Answer: | Eddie, The water pump on the Mirage is pretty packed in there. If your confident in changing a pump on a Japanese car, go for it. There really aren't any specially tools, but you'll definately need all metric tools and a LOT of time. You'll have to remove many components to get to the pump. If you wanna save time, frustration, and maybe even money, take it to a mechanic. If you need a new pump, you'll probably need new belts, tensioner, and possibly pulleys. That's not a fun job at all. If you do tackle the job, get a good repair manual for your car. They usually provide little tricks to remove and install components like pumps. Good luck! |
