Subject: mitsubishi transmission
Question: I own a 1990 Mitsubishi Lancer AWD manual Wagon. It looks like we need a new transmission or transmission repair kit. Unfortunately the car is down in the virgin islands (I am currently in DC). We are either trying to find a replacement or the parts to complete ourselves. So here are a couple of questions?

1) Is there another model that has the same transmission that can be substituted other than the Lancer?
2) I never am able to find a Mitsubishi lancer listed in any online listings for help, is there a reason other than it's an older car?

Answer: Teresa,
To answer your second question first, Mitsubishi did not offer their Lancer in the United States until about a year ago. That's the probably
the main reason for its lack of listings. Mitsubishi offered the Lancer
mainly in Japan, other parts of Asia, Austrailia, and Europe. I'm not sure exactly why it didn't come to the US sooner.

Now, your first question is much tougher. Since I live in the US, I've worked on a Lancer from the 90's. I do know there were two other cars that Mitsu offered in the US during 1990 that did have a an AWD set up.
That was the Eclipse and the Galant. I would guess the transmission and transfer case would be swappable between all three model. But the best bet would be to confirm that from a Mitsubishi dealership. They would be able to see if the Eclipse & Galant part numbers match that of your Lancer.
Good luck!
