| Subject: | 2002 Lancer ECU |
| Question: |
My Son has a 2002 Lancer ES 4 cyl (he thinks is 2.0 L), auto trans, air. He had charging problems and took it to a dealer for repair. They replaced the alternator and are now telling him he has a bad ECU which will cost $1900 to replace! I told him to check out salvage yards but he is told that the ECU is coded with the VIN# and replacing the ECU will cause some sort of lock down/out of the entire vehicle. Can you please shed some light on this and let us know if their is a cost effective solution to this if it is true? THanks in advance, |
| Answer: | DAn, I'm not aware of an immobilizer on the ECU, but you may want to confirm with the dealership on that. New ECUs are very expensive, so found out if you truly can use a used one. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck! |
