1989 mits lancer 4speed automatic, when i drive around town it is fine, when i go on long drives for more then 30mins, if i stop and then start the car again i dont have drive so i wait 20mins for the engin to cool down then all of a sudden i get the drive back, when this happens i can still put it in reserve and use that just not drive or 1st or 2nd, at the moment the car is still working. |
| Answer: | Jackie, Sounds like you could have an issue with your car's transmission computer getting too warm. When eletronics get overheated, they can act erratically. While you're driving, there is most likely some sort of cooling effect on the computer. But come to stop, and all that heat starts to soak in the eletronics, causing them malfunction until they cool down. I would recommend you have a transmission shop inspect your transmission
and have the fluid flushed if you've never had that done before. Also
have them inspect the transmission computer for possible damage. |
