Subject: Mitsubishi Lancer 91
Question: I have a problem with my mitsubishi lancer 91 model. I have a hard time tuning the engine. I have a timing light and the notch in the pulley won't seem to get in the timed position. When the engine is not running and checked the notch on the pulley at 1 piston TDC, the notch is not in the T (timed) position. Does this notch need to be on this position? or this notch would only get to this position when running and with a timing light? I have checked the spark plugs and it seems to be ok. Please help tune my car!
Answer: Armiel,
The first Lancer sold in the US only came about a year ago. I have no experience working on any sold in other countries. I'm not familiar with the specs of the engine Mitsu used in any of their previously released engines, I could can't really give you a detailed response. My best guess is that your tension may be off. When tightening the belt, ensure that the tensioner pulley shaft does not rotate with the bolt. Allowing it to rotate with the bolt can cause excessive tension on the belt.
Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.
Good luck
