| Question: | The Check engine soon
light has been coming on intermittently, the dealer is saying this
is the sparkplug assembly and needs to be replaced + 2 spark plugs
also something needs to be blown out and the cost is over 400.00 please get back to me Rich |
| Answer: | Rich, Anytime you get quoted that much money, you should definitely get a second opinion. I'm not sure what the dealer means by a "spark plug assembly". The only thing I can guess he's referring to is the either the distributor (about $670), the distributor cap & rotor ($45), or the ignition coil ($90). I'm sure you would have been quoted much higher if it was the actual
distributor. But even if he had to replace a couple spark plugs, some
spark plug wires, the distributor cap and rotor, that still shouldn't
be $400. But the dealership will charge the highest price for labor.
I would recommend taking your car to a local mechanic and ask for another
quote with the same items that the dealership said you needed. You'll
most likely get a cheaper quote. |
