| Subject: | Regarding vibration in 92 Mitsubishi Galant |
| Question: | Hi Anthony, I bought a used 1992 Mitsubishi Galant (Automatic Transmission) , 105k miles a few months back and I am very irritated by the car vibration at certain rpms. 1. When the car is in gear and at idle (brake is pressed), there is moderate vibration. 2. When the car is at around 1500rpm in any gear, again the vibration and noise is visible. 3. When the car is at 2900-3000rpm in any gear, there is considerable noise plus moderate vibration. One of the motor mounts(front) was replace a month back, the vibration at 3000rpm has drastically reduced but the noise is still there. Looks like the broken motor mount must have been vibrating. So the source of vibration/noise must be something else, but neither me nor my mechanic is able to figure out. I will be grateful to you, If you can advise me on this problem. Thank you, Looking forward to your reply, Kavan. |
| Answer: | Kavan, I would venture a guess that you may need to have your balance belt replaced. Your balance belt is responsible keeping your engine balanced and free from vibration. A bad motor mount will cause increased vibration, but a bad balance belt could be the overall cause. If you don't have the service records from the previous owner on that car, you may want to consider having the timing belt and balance belt replaced. Also, be sure the mechanic also thoroughly check the other 3 motor mounts to confirm they are in good shape. Good luck! |
