Subject: engine bad performance
Question: I HAVE A 1994 GALIANT WITH A 2.4 LT SOHC WITH AUTOMATIC WITH OVERDRIVE WHICH I JUST PURCHASED WITH 50,000 MILES. THIS CAR IDLES PERFECT BUT IT SEEMS LIKE IT LACKS PERFORMANCE; NOT EXACTLY A HESITATION BUT MORE LIKE A SAG-ESPECIALLY AROUND TOWN EX. 20-30MPH. IF I GUN THE PEDAL IT TAKES OFF LIKE A ROCKET AND HAS GOOD HWY PERFORMANCE.AIR FILTER WAS CHANGED-NO DIFFERANCE. ANY IDEA?? THANKS GARY TALLARITA
Answer: Gary,
If you just purchased the car, it would be a good idea to get a full tune-up. You already did the air filter. So I would recommend the following:
-New PCV valve
-Oil change
-Transmission fluid change
-Fuel filter change
-Replace spark plugs (have spark plug wires inspected; replace if necessary)
-Coolant flush

On a full tank of gas, add a bottle of STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner. That can be purchased in just about any store that sell automotive items.

At around 60,000 miles, you may want to consider getting your timing belt changed. Typically, when your timing belt is changed, all other belts are changed and your water pump is replaced.
Good luck!
