| Question: | will you answer a question
about a 1997 Mitsubishi Gallant 2.4L 4cyl ES auto 4 speed W/Overdrive? it slips going into 4(OD)-tach goes up 300rpm and then drops back down. Also under hard acceleration same thing going in to 3rd.Dealer suggests a remanufactured trans ,are these these trans known for early failures ? |
| Answer: | Rick, The Galants have always been known to have sticky transmissions. I don't know if your issue would really require you to get another transmission. I think that Dealer just wants to sell you a VERY expensive fix. Depending on how much they would charge you for a remanufactured tranny, you might as well use your car as a trade-in for a new Galant. Don't feel shy to shop around if you really want to keep this
car, and just go for a remanufactured tranny. Call around
to transmission specialty shops in your area and get price
quotes. I can guarantee they will quote you lower prices
than the Dealer in most cases. |
