| Subject: | Rear window defroster/window antenna |
| Question: | 97 mit Galant Es automatic
- Rear defroster has not worked for a year. Fuses are fine. Electrical
has been checked and there is power. Switch light turns on---But
rear window does not defrost at all. Also lost power to get many
previously received radio stations within several weeks of defroster
stopping.Probably window antenna. Two Mitsubishi service departments are stumped. They keep saying "there's power to the rear; it has to be working; there's nothing left to check". As I live in the northeast, no rear defrosting is dangerous in snowstorms, never mind a pain on cold mornings |
| Answer: | Wendy, Even though your mechanics say "there's power to the rear; it has to be working; there's nothing left to check". I'm guessing they are just checking the connector for the rear defrost. Those lines that go across your rear window need to be continuous. If those lines are stratched enough, it can prevent most of the system to stop working. If just the bottom lines are continuous, you may be able to defrost the extremely bottom part of the window (which may not even be noticable), but nothing else. If this occurs, the mechanics can claim that "there's power to the rear". You should make them check each defrost line for connectivity. If you have a window antenna, the same theory applies. Without continuous
connectivity, you reception will be weak. Your antenna may also just
be loose. There is a connector for your antenna behind your radio.
If there is a bad connection there, your stations will be weak. |
