| Subject: | Part won't come out |
| Question: |
Well I have my daughter's 1995 Mitsubishi 2.0 manual transmission alternator off and the upper bracket removed and I still cant get the alternator out from the top or the bottom, it's trapped. I did buy a service manual but it doesn't say how to get the part that is too big out of the space it's trapped in anywhere. Have you got any tips? one person said remove the transmission. I dont' think so. I may have to hire this job out. Thank you, Conrad |
| Answer: | Conrad, I don't have much experience with your year of Galant, but with all the cars I've had to remove the alternator on, I have not had to remove the transmission. However, I have found it useful (sometimes necessary) to remove the side engine mount and/or transmission mount. These are usually located on the left and right side of the engine bay. When removing the side engine mount, you need to take the weight of the engine off the mount. To do this, you use a well padded floor jack (several layers of cardboard make good padding) and carefully raise the engine by jacking up the engine from under the oil pan. With the mount removed, you should be able to raise and/or lower the engine enough to make more room to remove the alternator. Good luck! |
