| Subject: | Slow Acceleration. |
| Question: | I have recently bought
a used 94 Mitsubishi galant. I have noticed that it accelerates slowly.
Even when I floor it, it's acceleration isn't enough to be considered normal.
What could do to fix this? Thanks!!! |
| Answer: | Ryam, There are few things I usually do when I first buy a used car (or a friend of mine does and asks my advise), regardless if I bought it from a dealership or off the street. Change the oil, replace PCV valve, replace air filter, and replace fuel filter. Check your accelerator cable. If your cable has too much slack or is loose, your acceleration will be severaly reduced. Also, have your Throttle Position Sensor checked. That sensor provides information to your car's computer as to how much your throttle body plate is open. If that plate is not open enough, you won't get enough air into your engine; hence poor acceleration. These are a few of the basics, and most can be performed by yourself. If the basics don't help, you may want to have your transmission inspected. Its possible you have a bad torque convertor. But that would probably be worst case scenerio so check that last. Good luck! |
