Subject:	1996 Mitsubishi Galant S engine and cosmetic problems
Question:	I recently bought a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant S 4DR, 5 spd. I have several problems with it. 1st, every time I start the car, it makes a screeching sound coming from the engine. All the fluids are topped off and it has a new timing belt. I also have a remote starter and it will make that screeching sound as well. 2nd, the front windshield has a small crack and scratch on the passenger's side. Do you know how to repair that? 3rd, my cd player and cup holder was stolen, do you know how to replace it? Thanks Jose
Answer:	Jose, 1st, your screeching sound could be your alternator belt and/or power steering belt. If the belts are worn or your pulleys are loose, you will get a very high-pitched noise. Have all your belts checked and replaced if worn. Also have your pulleys and tensioner checked. Remote starters are typically mounted under the steering column. It is possible your starter relay is going bad. Have it checked out and replaced if necessary. 2nd, your windshield is repairable. Depending on the size and depth of the crack will determine the expense in repairing it. Its usually not a do-it-yourself repair. Have a glass repair shop inspect it and give you an estimate. 3rd, if the CD player was stolen while you owned the car you should have your insurnance company pay to have it replaced. If you just need to put in a new CD player, you could go to your local electronics store and buy a new one. Many stereo shops will offer free installation. You will probably have to contact your local Mitsubishi dealership to find out the cost of a new cup holder. They will also offer installation, but it will not be free. Good luck!
