Subject: galant will not start
Question: I was on the highway when the car made a highpitch buzz and the engine quit. All spark plug wires are firing fine. The fuel inj. is getting fuel. The engine turns but will not fire. The timing belt is still in one piece. Any possible answers would be greatly appreciated. The car is a 94 galant 4cyl.
Answer: Chris,
I have heard that sound before when I was driving on the highway. Soon after I heard that buzzing, my fuel pump died. Since you said your are still getting fuel to you injectors, you could probably rule that out. Its possible that only a little fuel is getting to your injectors. Its good to replace your fuel filter every 12k miles / 1 year. It may be clogged.

It is possible your alternator has blown. Usually a bad alternator can give symptoms before it dies; dead battery, radio not turning on while driving, headlights a bit too dim. But sometimes alternators just die. Since you heard a high-pitched buzzing noise, I'd guess its some electrical component that's causing the problem. Have your alternator and even your fuel pump checked to be sure.
Good luck!
