| Subject: | 1998 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L Transmission |
| Question: |
1998 Mitsubishi galant 2.4L. I'm working on my sister car and I
need to replace the tranny in it. I called all my local salvage yards
and a few have one but very costly. What I need to know is if a tranny
out of a 2.2L Galant will work? I found a car that have a 2.2L in it for
half of what the salvage yard is asking. And can you tell me what other
make model car will have the same 2.4L that will work with this car? |
| Answer: | Jason, You didn't specify if you were referring to an automatic transmission or a manual transmission. But either way, a tranny from a 2.2L engine will probably not work in your 2.4L engine car. Mainly because the flywheel, exhaust and framing memebers would all need to be modified to get it to fit and work. Plus, in the case of an automatic tranny, any eletrical connections, cooling lines, and transaxle computer may not match up either. Stick with a transmission that matches as close to your car's specs as
possible. Galant trannies for the 2.4L engine should be the same between
the years 1994-1998. As far as a different make or model, I really don't
have a definite answer for that one. Best to stick with a Galant tranny
between those years to be safe and save yourself lots of time, money and
headaches. |
