| Subject: | Mitsubishi no-start |
| Question: | I have a 1987 Mitsubishi Galant,2.4, Automatic transaxle, G64b, L4-2350cc- SOHC. It sat for about six years . Then I decided to have it running. In May of 2001 I had the Computer Checked out and put in a new fuel pump. It started and ran but since July of 20001 it will not start. There is spark at the coil, plugs, and the Fuel pump is working. I had removed the distributor and re-installed it but maybe on the exhaust stroke. Would this prevent it from starting? |
| Answer: | Valenton, Yes. Installing the distributor incorrectly (on the wrong stroke) will prevent the engine from starting. Check the position of the rotor. Make sure the rotor points to "1" position on the distributor cap. It must be this way when the crankshaft is lined up on Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke. As the distributor turns around, the crankshaft has to be lined up twice
at TDC; one time when the piston is coming up on the exhaust stroke, and
the other time when it is coming up on the compression stroke. Just be
SURE you are at TDC durning the compression stroke. |
