i have a 95 gallant, auto. my key will not turn ing. switch, key works on doors and trunk. will sound bell if key is in ingnition if door is open but will not work. steering wheel is in locked position. i can't figure how to get ingnition out without pulling steering wheel and air bags. |
| Answer: | Dan, This is not an uncommon occurance. I've seen it happen in a wide number of different car manufacturers. Here are a few basic causes and possible solutions: 1. You may have engaged the anti-theft rod or steering wheel lock in the steering column. Generally this happens when you turn your car off with the wheels cut hard in either direction. You can generally remedy this problem by "jiggling" the steering wheel right and left while attempting to turn the key. It's also possible the anti-theft rod may be damaged. 2. The key is bent or otherwise damaged. 3. The ignition lock cylinder is shot. Good luck! |
