Question: *Reply to answer*
Thanks for reply-ing, I already have lifted the hood and tried to pinpoint the source, it seems to be in the area that I described, maybe under the long aluminum assembly at the back of the engine... The car runs okay, it just makes alot of noise while driving... Thanks again, Rob F
Answer: Rob,
Good detective work. I believe the long aluminum assembly you're talking about is your intake manifold. If the noise you're hearing is a metallic sound, you may have loose throttle body assembly, sticky or loose throttle body plate/valve.

If you don't hear the noise that much when the car is parked and running, but here is louder and louder the faster you drive, you may have a worn drive shaft oil seal.

If you notice the rattle mostly when accelerating and at high speeds, you may just have a loose exhaust pipe heat shield. You could even have a small hole in your downpipe (an exhaust pipe that goes from your exhaust manifold to you catalytic converter). Have your exhaust checked, and may just be a 5 minute fix. Those things always come loose over the years.

I have heard of noisey transmissions on the Galant, but I would have the the other, simplier possibilites checked first. My best guess is that this is very simple and inexpensive fix. If its something like a transmission problem, shop around for the best quote from qualified mechanics before you bring it in to be fixed.
Good luck!
