| Subject: | Car doesn't start |
| Question: | Hi, I have a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD that has a manual transmission. Recently my car just wouldn't start no more. First I was able to start the car but last week when I went to start it, it slowly became weaker as I turned the key. I could hear the car weakening every time I tried to start it again. I know it is not the battery...can it possible be the starter? Thanks your help is appreciated. |
| Answer: | Jim, If you're positive it's not the battery, check your spark plugs and plug wires. If you've been driving with the same spark plugs for more than 3-4 years, you should replace them. If you decide to replace your plugs, you'll be fine going with copper plugs. The platnuim plugs are not worth the money and will not increase any performance. If you're plugs and plug wires are fine, there is a good chance your
starter is beginning to fail. Usually, a starter will show an indication
of failure when the weather starts getting cold. Fortunately, a new starter
is not too expensive, and it's not very difficult to install. |
