| Subject: | cranck shaft pulley removal |
| Question: | I'm working on a 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS, with a 2.0l,dohc automatic, and I need info on how to take the crank shaft pulley off. Is there a special puller, if so how does it work? |
| Answer: | Scott, From my experience on working on a '96 non-turbo Eclipse, there are two special tools that Mitusbishi (and Chrysler) uses to remove the crank pulley. The large bolt is called the damper bolt. The special tool is basically just a puller that holds the crank pulley from spinning with the belt removed, and a secondary tool gets inserted into the first tool to loosen the bolt. Many folks don't use the special tools. As long as you can hold the pulley secure and take the bolt off you should be fine. Good luck! |
