Subject: whats that device thats holding the oil filter?
Question: I drive a Mitsubishi Eclipse 1995 GST engine 2.0 turbo 4wd theres an oil leak from where the oil filter is; that device that the filter screws on too.im assuming it is that because when I start the car a hole lot of oil leaks out from that and a noise begins. its like clack clack clack clack clack please help thank you
Answer: Alan, My initial thought is that your oil filter may not be properly screwed on.
If the filter was installed at an angle, or too loosely, or the seal has
broken, oil will leak from the filter. With your oil pressure being low,
not enough oil will reach your lifters, and that will cause that clacking noise you described.

You may just have a misaligned, or broken oil filter. Replace it with a new one, and see if the problem continues. If the oil leak does continue, your oil filter housing (the component your oil filter is attached to) may need a new oil seal. And for a turbo model, oil is VERY critial. Be sure to get all oil leaks fixed ASAP. Once your oil leaks are fixed, your oil pressure should return to normal, and that clacking noise should diminish.
Good luck!
