Subject: Mitsubishi Eclipse 1990 trouble
Question: Hi,
I have a '90 Eclipse. I recently drove down to Florida from New York. The ride went well. No problems with the car at all. When I got down here, the 2nd day I was here, the car wouldn't start. It sounded like it was going to start, but didn't. I brought it to Firestone and they said they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I had to have it towed again to the Mitsubishi dealership, and they told me that it's a computer problem. They want $1100 for a new computer. Is this necessary?
Thank you
Mark
Answer: Mark,
Your problem is all too common with early model Mitsubishis. Read this article for further information:

Most likely that long drive to Florida built up a lot of heat in your ECU and your old capacitors cannot handle it. The dealership was right about one thing, another computer is necessary. But you sure as hell do not need a brand new one that costs $1100. Go to this site to order a rebuilt ECU for your Eclipse at a fraction of the cost:

Call them up and tell them the exact model of your Eclipse and they will match up a rebuilt ECU for your car.
Good luck!
