Subject: 93 Eclipse ignition module replacement
Question: Is there ANY alternative to the $800 stock module from Mitsubishi?
I was wondering if there is an aftermarket part that would be cheaper and equal or higher quality (which is quite often the case!!)
96 Eclipse,RS (I think!) auto tranny. I'm not sure of the engine size but it is not turbo or anything special, I assume 2.0L
Thanx, for your time and any help that you can provide.

Answer: Phil,
The 1G Eclipses (90-94) had two different types of ignition systems; 1.8L engines used a distributor and the 2.0L did not.

I'm not sure if the 2.0L ignition modules on the 1G Eclipses are the same as the modules from the 2G Eclipses (95-99). The 2G Eclipses only had the 2.0L engine available (except for the Spyder convertible). If you're looking for stock ignition modules you can try searching eBay, or here:

Lots of people part out there Eclipses there, and I'm sure you can find the module you're looking for.

If you are just looking to enhance your current module there are a number of sites that sell ignition system enhancers. http://www.machv.com is a good site for performance parts for Eclipses.
Good luck!
