| Question: | I drive a 2000 Mitsubishi
Eclipse GT, manual. Something wierd happened today for the firstime since I bought to car 2 weeks ago and I am very worried about my car's reliablity. Today my car was driving just fine until I pick up a friend of mine. While we were going to our desitination the car started dying (stalling) on my everytime I would take the car out of gear. If I held my feet on the gas a little, the car would run just fine, but if I took my foot off the pedal while it was in neutral, it would die. So I took the car to a auto shop, let the mechanic take the car for a spin, and the car ran perfectly. And for the rest of the day when I drove the car, it ran perfectly. At first I thought it was the A/C, but like I said, it ran fine the rest of the day, even with A/C. I really don't want this to happen to me again, becuase I travel cross coutry alot. Any Insight? |
| Answer: | Christian, It's these one-time problems that are the most difficult to diagnose. Your car is pretty new, so I doubt there is any major issue with it. My only guess is that maybe your fuel filter may be dirty and your fuel pressure got too low. If you want to do some preventative maintenance, replace your fuel filter. It should be replaced every year or so. They are cheap and relatively easy to replace. And if you do a lot of cross country travelling, you should keep
your maintenance schedule up-to-date. Your owners manual will indicate
the time/mileage for all your fluids to be replaced. It will also
tell you when you should change items like filters and spark plugs
to be replaced. Follow this schedule, and your car should never "suddenly" die
on you. |
