| Subject: | Sensor problem? |
| Question: | 1995 Eclipse 2.0 L
Non-turbo. The RPM's drop and rise again very quickly when driving
at partial or full throttle. It is a very violent stop and go, not
a smooth drop in power. The dealership replaced the Cam position sensor,
but it still does the same thing. I don't think it could be the fuel
pump, I replaced the stock one with a Walbro fuel pump. Do you think
it may be an air intake sensor or a map sensor? Thank you |
| Answer: | Albert, Your may be with your MAP sensor. I would think the dealership would have checked that, but I can understand why he replaced the cam position sensor; especially since it's a pretty expensive part. It's possible that your thottle position sensor is faulty. Or it could be as simple as your accelerator cable being loose. Try replacing your fuel filter. They are cheap, and pretty easy to change yourself. Even if it's new, your pump may have sucked up some debris that was in your tank. The Walbro is a bit stronger than stock, it may have sucked up more junk at the bottom. Sometimes the screens on the pumps don't catch everything. Your problem may even be a stuck or dirty throttle body, weak fuel pressure regulator, or one of your fuel injectors may be clogged or just malfuncting. It's possible even your spark plug is fouled, or you have a problem with your ignition system. There are several things that can cause this. Unfortunately, it's
hard to pinpoint the exact problem. I would suggest replacing or
checking the cheapest things first until you find what's actually
causing the problem. |
