| Subject: | fubar elect on 92 talon |
| Question: | my roomate has a 92
talon, i guess it's the same thing as a 92 gsx. he's been trying to
troubleshoot and elect problem. he keeps frying the alternator and
bat. but here's the kicker, whith the ign switch in "acc" or "on" nothing
works-seetbelts,dome lights, nothing, but when the switch is thrown
to start, the car starts and everything seems to work fine. I took
a look at it and he has a mess of bells and whistles wired all over
the elect system. is there specific electrical circut or relay we need
to focus on? |
| Answer: | Ike, Talons are the exact same car as the Eclipse, but the Eclipse GSX is the top of the line model. The equivalent Talon would be the TSi AWD model. But that's really just on-the-side info, I don't think that matters for your problem. You will want to keep an eye on the main ignition fuse. That is located in a fuse box, next to the battery. It's a 30 AMP fuse, and if that blows, NOTHING will work. In your case, it's a little different since nothing works until you turn the key all the way. A lot of DSM owners (that includes Eclipses, Talons, and Lasers) like to modify their cars and add extra bells and whistles that can distrupt other electrical systems. But if you've looked at everything under the engine an even in the
driver side fuse box, and all looks fine, you may want to inspect
the car's computer. Read this article for further information: If the ECU is shot, you will have all sorts of strange electrical
problems. Having the battery and alternator fry is a costly and time
consuming problem. Try to get this fixed asap. It may be something
as simple as bad connection or a short circuit somewhere. |
