| Question: |
My son purchased his Eclipse after he returned from to the states shortly before his medical discharge from the Army. In regards to the Eclipse he hit a deer when he was home for a visit in October, we were finally able to pick up the car two days ago only to find that all the lights came on in the dash, the engine light, speedometer not working after all the repairs were supposed to be done. We are to take the car back tomorrow to the repair shop. My son took the car to another business yesterday and they hooked it up to a diagnostic and it showed up as the fuel module not working properly. We discovered the wire harness had been cut in half and put back together when the repairs were done, the shop owner did not inform us of this, one of their employees did as he is friends with my son. I am concerned about the electrical components in the car and what the consequences of the wire harness could be at a later date; we are in Oregon right now and my son has to leave back to Texas. Is there something we can check to make sure that there is not going to be problems with it, or insist that it be replaced at the shop?? I am not sure what we can or can not do. Any ideas/help would be appreciated. |
| Answer: | Wilma, You may have luck going back to the mechanic and ask them to replace the electrical harness at no additional cost. On a car that so new, that would be best thing to do. I would question why the mechanic cut the wires in the first place. But as far as problems occurring in the future, that would depend on
the way the wires were reattached. If they properly soldered the wires
together and wrapped for protection, then it could last the life of the
car. |
