Subject: Oil in and on the spark plugs
Question: I purchased a 1999 eclipse GS ten days ago. Today the car started to miss and hesitate so I took it back to the dealer for service-I purchased an extended service contract covering most parts. The dealer said that the plugs and plug wires needed replaced and that this would not be covered under the extended warranty. I decided to replace the plugs and wires myself. The spark plug holes on 3 of 4 cylinders were filled with oil-approximately 1/2 inch! The dealer's mechanic told me that the cam tower seals need to be replaced. This car has only 44,700 miles on it. What should I do? Return the vehicle stating this as a pre-existing condition that can lead to serious engine damage in the future? Or should I demand the repair be made?
Answer: Bob,
Depending on the State you live in, you may want to check the Lemon Laws that may apply to your situation. You may want to get a lawyer for this one. Those cam seals don't just suddenly go bad. It takes time for those seals to go bad. They were mostly like bad when you bought the car. And odds are, the dealership knew about the problem.

I would demand that they fix the problem first. It's odd that your extended warranty doesn't cover that. If they don't fix it for free, request that they return the vehicle for a full refund. If they refuse that, get a lawyer and contact the Better Business Bureau. This dealership sounds like they are scamming you.
Good luck
