| Question: | i have lost 50% of original hp . mmy cylinder compression is 120psi in all four cylinders @ 1500rpms what would cause this change ? thank you for your time |
| Answer: | J.R., I know that the standard compression for your engine is about 185 psi and your service limit is 131 psi. I'm not sure how you checked your compression, but your reading of 120 psi does sound low. Odds are you have a blown your head gasket. If you notice
that your coolent level has decreased since you noticed the
low compression, this is defiantely a head gasket problem.
Most blown head gaskets will require a new gasket be installed.
There are very few which will be fixed by addition of a cooling
system sealer - you can try it, but be prepared to have the
gasket replaced if the sealer doesn't work. |
