| Question: | How do you determine timing belt alignment/marks with a 2.0 dual overhead cam when marks are no longer visible (or can't find them). Thanks |
| Answer: | Randy, If your timing marks are not visible, it will make it difficult to set. If you want to eye ball it, turn the crankshaft bolt (ALWAYS CLOCKWISE) so the No. 1 cylinder is at Top-Dead-Center on the compression stroke. Both camshaft sprocket timing marks must be in line with the top surface of the cylinder head. [A straight edge (ruler) laid across the center of the cam shaft attaching bolts will help you to better see and align the timing marks.] The crankshaft and oil pump sprockets must also be aligned with their respective timing marks. That was taken directly from the factory service manual for a '95 Eclipse. Now, the procedure for replacing the timing belt on the turbo and non-turbo models will differ. Here's a couple of very good reference pages for both the turbo and non-turbo models: Turbo: Non-turbo: Good luck! |
