| Subject: | ECLIPSE STUCK IN THIRD GEAR |
| Question: | Hi, I got a 91 eclipse
not turbo 2.0L. I recently bought this car and it will not come
out of third gear (automatic). It starts off in third and stays
in third the whole time. Any ideas what could be out of adjustment
or what I can do with out spending alot of money on this car.
Hope you can help. Thanks. Ray.. |
| Answer: | Ray, The cheapest thing you can try first is flush your transmission fluid, fill with a new, high quality synthetic ATF, and replace the transmission fluid filter. That fluid should be changed every 30k-45k miles. Many people neglect to do this and it can cause serious transmission problems. If that doesn't help, you may need to have your torque converter
replaced. This is not a cheap fix and can be costly. If you
decided to have your torque converter inspected, have a transmission
specialty shop do it. The dealership will overcharge you,
and a general mechanic garage may not have qualified enough
mechanics. |
