| Subject: | 96 talon wont turn over |
| Question: |
A week ago I was driving my 96 Talon and the engine died, it wouldnt restart so when trying to pop start it would make this awful noise like it was bogging down. The car tries to turn over but wont start. Sometimes it will back fire when trying to start. We had the timing belt and head redone last year when the belt broke. We were told we need to replace the EGR valve. The car would sometimes stall after starting or when stopping which we thought was due to the valve. Also the night before car stopped working someone hit and pushed the car about 5-6 ft, car was off but in 1st gear along with E-break. No outer damage to the car so not really hit hard just pushed. We checked the spark plugs and only #2 has spark. Just wondering if you think it might be the timing belt from being pushed or something to do with the fuel system? Thank you for any help you might be able to give me. Lori |
| Answer: | Lori, I don't think pushing the car caused a problem. If only one spark is firing, you should have the ignition system checked. This includes (but not limited to) the ignition coil, MPI fuse, ignition timing, power transistor, and even the plugs and wires themselves. It would be a good idea to check the fuel system as well. Check the pump
and the injectors. I would also have the timing checked, including the
cam position sensor. Have your mechanic also pull the car's computer and
check it for damage. If the car's computer is malfunctiong, it can cause
all sorts of sputtering, stalling, and starting problems. |
