| Question: |
I have a 1992 eclipse GS 5 speed. One evening my husband was coming home on the intersate and the car just died , and would not restart . My father said it was the timing belt which he replaced, however the car will now start and stay running as long as you keep at 2000rpms , but if you remove your foot off the pedal it dies .What else should we take a look at to fix the issue? |
| Answer: | Robin, This could be a problem with the intake system. Check the Idle Air Controller (IAC) which is located under the throttle body. It's job is responsible for maintaining a constant idle speed while the foot is off the gas pedal. Other items to inspect are the throttle position sensor and the throttle body itself. Test the fuel pump to be sure it's putting out the proper amount of fuel. If you haven't replaced the fuel filter within in the past 2 years, this would be a good time to do so. It would also highly recommend inspecting your car's computer. Read this
